CHICAGO WRITER + PERFORMING ARTIST

CHI'S QUOTE OF THE DAY:

He say he’s tired of hearing the word love, cause he’s been scarred by it, wounded by it, he tried it for the third time, and love he was denied it, He struck out and is frustrated and is now taking a break at bat, he’ll rather play the field because currently that’s where his heart is at.
— Chi-Brown

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Wherever he performs, he leaves a lasting impression on the audience. He's a multitalented artist. He's a Virgo. Although he's very talented, he respects and partakes in the daily grind of getting better. Mastery of the craft is what Chi-Brown is after. His performance skills include but are not limited to Sketch Comedy, Improv, Hip-Hop, and Spoken word. His artsy discovery all started when he was down and out with nowhere to go and no one to talk to. After a long series of unfortunate events, one afternoon Chi-Brown (real name Christopher G. Brown) was sending a text message to a friend but this was not a usual text message. This text message turned out to be his first poem entitled "Moving On" in which his poetic words compared his friend's failing relationship to that of a drag race. After that very moment, he knew that he had stumbled across something great! Sometime early May 5, 2008 at 6:42 PM is when he discovered this talent and the rest is forecasted history!

Chi-Brown has been working and training for many years in the performance industry. Seeking education to train his skills, Chi found a home at Chicago's renowned Second City Training Center - the largest school of sketch comedy and improvisation in the world. With Second City, he completed the Improvisation training program and enriched his writing skills with various courses in writing. He was fortunate to train with wonderful teachers, including Matther Mages, Tim Soszko, Janna Sorbel, Mark Czoske, Kate Cohen, Lauren Dowden, Nancy Beckett, Jamie Buell, Jessica Mitolo, Bina Martin, and Joe Janer.

Following Second City, Chi went on to improve his skills at stand up comedy with Zanies Comedy Program. Along with the assistance of Bill

Gorgo and Dobie Maxwell, Chi was able to discover in what ways audiences react to different forms of humor, and how to successfully bring humor into his poetry performances. Chi has also taken stage acting lessons with Ted Sarantos.

Chi has had the opportunity to perform at many well-known performance spaces around the Chicagoland area. These venues include Riddles Comedy Club, Peace and Posh Cafe, Exedus II Lounge, DePaul University, Checkerboard Lounge, Heartland Cafe, Green Mill Lounge, Underground Lounge, Wise Fools Pub, House of Culture, Washington Park, Comedy Sportz, and the various stages at Second City.

An artist is always working. If an artist isn’t manifesting the idea, their thinking of the idea and crafting it out mentally.
